  1. A phony means a person isn't real. They don't know what living means, but since they don't know what it means they do not know that they are phonies.

  2. A person who is a phony is someone who is fake and isn't being themself. I think that phonies don't know that they are being fake.

  3. A person is a phony if they portray themselves as something they are not. They usually do this to fit in, make themselves feel better, or they want attention. Phonies may think that they are phonies because they act like someone else purposely. However, sometimes people are not aware they are phonies because they force themselves into thinking they are someone else, they begin to get wrapped into their lies, eventually forgetting their identity.

  4. For someone to be phony they would be acting fake, acting like someone that they are not. I think that phonies deny that they are a phony to other people but when they are alone they do realize that they are phonies.

  5. A phony is a person who portrays them self differently depending on the people they are with. Phonies, I think, don't know they are acting like one because they act differently so often they are now used to it.

  6. Great comments, folks! Maria, I like what you wrote about people sometimes not realizing they are phony. I wonder if life compels us to be a little phony at times, and if that's always a bad thing?

  7. A phony is a person who pretends to be someone or something they are not. I believe phonies do not think they are phonies because they are so used to being something they are not.

  8. A phony is somebody who acts, or pretends they are something their not. But, I don't always think its a terrible thing. While you want to act like how you really are, some situations force people to act differently, more mature, or immature for example, but that doesn't always qualify as being a bad thing.

  10. Someone who is a phony would be someone who acts unrealistically. They are probably insecure about things so they show off by being a certain way. I'm sure that phony people they have an idea that they are acting a certain way or acting a way they want to and not being themselves, but I'm not exactly sure everyone who is fake has that idea.

  12. A phony is someone who lies about who they are or changes who they are just to impress others and to gain the respect of others. I agree with what Victoria said about how they have to know that they're being phonies because it's impossible to be like that and not realize it.

  13. A person is a phony when they are not true to themselves and others. I do think that phonies think they are phony. Even if they are aware that they are aware that they are not being truthful.

  15. someone who is phony is someone who talks behind other people's backs and acts 'fake.' I can't speak for all people but, I do believe that most 'phony' people don't reflect on themselves or describe themselves using that word. Usually when people use the adjective 'phony' they are using it to describe a bad or negative quality.

  18. I think a phony person is someone that is fake and acts like something they aren't and something they want to be but not who they are themselves. They get to carried away with being someone/something else that they don't realize they are fake.

  19. I think what makes a person a phony is that they hide their true colors behind a sort of mask and try to trick people in to thinking that they're something that they're not. I feel that deep down, a phony knows that they're being fake but they would rather not admit it to themselves or anyone else.

  20. A phony is someone who isn't genuine. They won't admit it because they're in denial and don't want to believe it. They'll usually try to be like someone or something else in hopes of acceptance in return.
