  1. He is saying that the book, The Catcher in the Rye, helps people understand what the book does for them and what it teaches them about life. It changes them. I agree with what he is saying because The Catcher in the Rye helps change you and makes you understand what life is like such as, people being phonies and people trying to be real.

  3. I agree with what Will Smith had to say because he brought up a good point about how creativity is waht we make of it and how some people decive the book as an outlet to go out and murder. As he quates the books bad lines that influence weak minds to do what it says in the book.

  4. will smith brings up great pionts through this video about the book catch in the rye. the things he was saying revealed alot to me that i hadn't see while reading it. when he said that the hunting hat was a hunting hat for shooting people it hit me as a huge symbol. holden is a lonly hunter targeting all other people. he is a nobody trying to get rid of all the somebodies. he hates somebodies because he thinks they are phonies. i agree completly with will smith in everything he was saying he really brought out pionts i had never thought of and expanded on them well.

  5. Will Smith was saying that imagination is the most important part of you. Most people have strayed away from their imagination and have lost themselves. He believes that it is yellowest part that a person can be. Will is saying that people have lost their imagination and have become something else. When he lists all of those movies he says that those weren’t made from imagination they were made from people who are scared of themselves, they would rather fight blindfolded then to fight and see the other persons face. They see themselves in the other person and that scares them. I partially agree with what Will was saying. I agree that people have lost their imagination and have made their lived their life a different way because of it.

  8. I agree with this monolouge,I also think when Holden says I shoot people in this hat he means he targets people and he goes to where that person is.

  10. Will Smith was saying that people today interpret imagination in a different way than it’s supposed to be. He thinks that imagination in who you are and if your imaginative than you are being yourself. He thinks that if you can’t be yourself, you’re afraid of yourself and what other would think of you, and that that is the worst kind of yellow there is. I don’t think that peoples excuse to shoot anybody would be because they read Catcher in the Rye, because those people didn’t understand that the red hat stood for something different than a people shooting hat and being yourself doesn’t mean to do crazy things. It means to be imaginative.

  11. Will Smith is saying that Catcher in the Rye shows us how imagination eases the difficulty of self-examination. In the book, Holden says that it would be easier to fight someone if they were both blindfolded because the scariest thing for him is the other guy’s face. Will Smith counters this and says that most of the time, the face that we have to deal with is our own and real “yellowness” is not being able to deal with that face. I agree with him because without imagination, we lose a little bit of ourselves and sometimes it is painful for us to try and deal with our own problems as well as ourselves.

  12. I agree with Will Smith's character in this scene, he makes many great points. He makes a point on how this book can be percieved and why people would go out to murder by some of the lines said. He talks about imagination and the lost of imagination. What he says is strong and was completely my view of the book

  13. Will Smith brings up points about how people that are famous that got caught doing something they shouldn’t have refer to the book Catcher in the Rye for defense. I agree when he says that creativity is basically different for everyone and to have it you have to make it your own. It’s up to you what you do with it and you let it go to waste then you’re yellow. I also agree with Will when he says it’s important to elaborate on it. He brings up a good point when he says that Holden wants to do so much but he has a very hateful personality and he’s very self-involved. Will also brings up that it is easier for someone to fight blindfolded rather than seeing their face because they would see a part of themselves within the other man.

  14. I agree with somethings that Will Smith says about "The Catcher in the Rye." I believe that the what he said about creativity is true. He says that creativity is imagination, and it is something now outside ourselves. For example, he states that there are now books, such as "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" that provide us with fiction. He says that the fiction makes us think and imagine. He also says like Holden what scares me most is the other guys face. He thinks we can't even face our own faces sometimes. I agree with this.

  15. In the monologue Will Smith explaines how the book is about life. To be prepared for it, and its ups and downs. I agree with Will when he talks about the creativity and immagination of people in todays world. Catcher in the Rye talks about true life; what it is really like. There are phonies out in the world as Will explains and i completly agree. Joe you did a good job i agree with you.

  17. Will Smith is saying that imagination is extremely important and that it keeps one grounded and in reality, and that Catcher in the Rye emphasizes this. He feels that imagination is a gift in which people can live miraculously through. He talks of how there are phonies and fake people in life as well but that those people might not have a good imagination. He says that you can also have an overactive imagination which is where you get schizophrenia.

  18. In the monologue Will Smith makes note of how people take creativity too far and there needs to be "a line" between fiction and reality. I agree with him when he says that us as people cannot look at ourselves sometimes rather than the "other person." It becomes hard to face who you actually are or what you have actually done.

  19. In this monologue Will Smith talks about the Catcher in the Rye and how it is related to events in real life. An example of one of these events would be shootings that have taken place and the person held responsible for these deaths have blamed them on the Catcher in the Rye. I believe the way Will Smith explains how Catcher in the Rye could have been related to some of these incidents is very persuasive. At the end of this video I got a feeling for why some people may have said this.

  20. In the monologue, Will Smith talks about Catcher in the Rye and how it relates to people’s view on how life is interpreted. Will Smith talks about the person who shot John Lennon and how he said “If you want to know why I did it, read Catcher in the Rye.” I agree with Will Smith when he says that this book can be looked at it many different ways, and it can affect the weak minded. My view on Catcher in the Rye is similar to Will Smith’s view, but he elaborates on it better.

  21. In the monolouge Will Smith relates Cathcer and the Rye and why it has been used for refrences by murderers. I agree with what he is saying and he really shows how that book can be seen as vioelent. Most movies and books are using our imagination to represent something, but Catcher in the Rye is not using any imagination. It is purely a person's life in a direct way.

  22. I agree with Will Smith because imagination is very important but during teenage years it can be dangerous. It can be dangerous becasue kids are still trying to find out who they are and when they do they are afraid to show it because they have fear of being rejected. To me he is saying that imagination is a gift.

  23. Will Smith chooses to talk about a unique point from Catcher in the Rye. He believes that the book reveals the power of imagination. What he means by that is that for example, people who hallucinate, are only mixing up what is going through their mind and reality. Imagination is extremely powerful. It is what makes us us, and can indeed be dangerous. He also touches on the point of the entire book. Phoniness is a key topic that is constantly brought up throughout the book. Holden seems to find at least one thing wrong with everything and everyone. He sees flaws in society and tries not to give in and become phony, like everyone around him.

The monolouge talks about several important points in the book that all make up the wonderful Catcher in the Rye.

  24. In the monologue, Will Smith brings up some very important points. He quotes the part of the book where Holden says that he could never be in a fist fight because he would not be able to look at the other man's face. In Holden's situation, he is fighting with himself. This can mean that Holden cannot bear to look at himself.

  25. I agree with Will Smith and his connections between Catcher in the Rye and reality. Smith says that people are afraid of themselves, which can reference to Holden wanting to fight blindfolded. He also talks about how imagination of some movies he listed wheren't imagination, but fear.

  26. I have always wondered why famous killers have either been caught with the book Catcher in the Rye or said ‘If you want to know why I killed … read Catcher in the Rye.’ Will Smith brought up a point that people shouldn’t blame what they did on a book, everyone does everything for a reason. The book Catcher in the Rye can be different for everyone. For one person it may be about finding yourself or to another person it may be the total opposite. A important idea throughout the book is that Holden finds everyone phony, every one that he meets he seems to be able to find a flaw in.
