Pre-reading question #4

How would you respond to the statement that everyone is mentally ill to some degree? At what point do you think hospitalization might be necessary for a mentally ill person?

  1. Hospitilization would be neccessary when the mentally ill personj starts to lose their mind and starts to think violently. I disagree, nobody is mentally ill, you aquire it through experiences.

  2. I don't think everyone is mentally ill, I believe that everyone is a bit bizzare, its just some of us are better at hiding it than others. I mean afterall, what is normal? Hospitalization would be necessary when the person is having thoughts about death and suicide.

  3. I disagree with both Cat and Luke when they said everyone is mentally ill, because no one is perfect and everyone has flaws, but some people can more ill than others. Everyone has something that they can't stand to any extent, which I believe is their part of the mental illness. Hospitalization needs to occur when that person has no control of him/herself, losses their mind, and starts to think violently.

  4. I completely agree with Keely. I believe everyone is mentally ill to some agree. Everyone has something that needs to be treated and cured, something that keeps you from being perfect, something you are born with and you die with, something that isn't developed or erased. Hospitalization becomes necessary when a mentally ill person becomes a danger to him or herself or to others.

  5. I agree with Keely and Maria completely . No one is 100% normal and "okay." There are going to be things that we need to deal with and we try to fix about ourselves. But like Keely said, there are some people that are definitely more ill than others. However, I think hospitalization isn't really necessary until the person harms themselves or others, and can no longer think clearly/loses their mind.

  6. i believe that everyone is somewhat mentally ill because no one is perfect and !00 percent normal. People all have little corks and react to things differently. Some people show that they are more mentally ill than others. The only reason someone would have to be hospitalized is when they are putting themselves and others in danger

  7. I disagree with Claire and Keely, and do believe that everyone is slightly mentally ill. But I do agree with Cat in saying that some people are better at hiding it than others. Nobody is absolutely perfect and ok, it wouldn't be human. People should be hospitalized when it comes to the point of endangering themselves or others.

  8. I believe that everyone is mentally ill in someway, keeping them from being perfect. I agree with Cat and Victoria, that some are better at hiding their flaws than others, however. Some cases are more severe than others too, some people can fix it, and others can't. People should be hospitalized when they come into danger with themselves or others.

  9. I agree because nobody is perfect. Everyone has problems. Hospitalization might be necessary when a person does something bad or when he hurts someone or himself.

  10. I do not believe that everyone is mentally ill. I just believe no on is perfect. Hospitalization is necessary when people start to loose their minds and common sense. For example, thinking violently or suicidally is a time when it would be necessary.

  11. I do not believe that everyone is mentally ill, but I do believe that everyone has their own problems that they deal with. People should be hospitalized when they are not capable of taking care of themselves, or when they start to get violent towards themsleves or others.

  12. I also believe that not everyone is mentally ill and that everyone has their own personal problems. Hospitalization should occur when someone has thoughts about suicide or anything extremely violent.

  13. I completely agree with Jillian when she says that everyone is mentally ill which keeps them from being perfect. I think that it becomes a problem when the person is being significantly effected and has thoughts of suicide or other rash ideas that he/she would regret.

  14. I do not believe everyone is mentally ill, everyone has some sort of problem, but being mentally ill is not the way i would put it. The reason someone would need hospitalization would be due to their problem becoming out of control and hurting them self or others.

  15. I'm not sure I believe everyone is mentally ill but everybody definitely has their issues. Everyone is completely different, I don't disagree that their isn't something a little bit off with all of us or even just some of us, but that doesn't necessarily make us all mentally unstable. At the point where you have become completely mad , when everyone else can see their could be something wrong and you need help , when you can't help yourself , where no one else can help you but professionals is when I believe you need to be hospitalized.

  16. Everyone has problems, that is obvious. I do feel that everyone is mentally ill, and some traits are more visible than others in people. I think that at the point that your actions are seriously hurting others, whether it is a random person or the people that you love and care about.

  17. I believe some people are mentally ill, some more then others. I don't believe everyone is mentally ill but you can become and feel mentally ill at some points in life. It can get to the point were you need to be hospitalized when you start thinking about hurting others/yourself. I agree with Kathrine, and Jake

  18. I strongly believe that your own thoughts and mind can potentially make you mentally ill. Hospitalization is beyond necessary when someone is trying to or has intentions to severely hurt themselves or others.

  19. I do not by any circumstances consider everyone to be mentally ill. Mental illness is when there is phycological or behavioral patterns that generally is associated to distress or disability. You should be hospitalized when you lose track of reality and what goes on in your mind.

  20. There is a little "mental illness" in all of us, just some more severe than others. Obviously, someone with OCD should not be hospitalized. On the other hand, if someone has a hard time understanding reality and cannot be controlled, they would need help.

  21. I agree with Isabel, everyone has a little mental illness but other people may have it way worse. No one is "normal". I think someone should be hospitalized if they cannot be controlled and or control themselves.

  22. I think that each person is a little different and has their own problems but that really might not categorize them as "mentally ill". Hospitalization is necessary, in my opinion, when the person can't refrain from hurting themselves or isn't able to control themselves.

  23. Everyone sees things differently which could cause someone to think that another person is mentally ill. I think everyone has it in them they just don't see it because it could come off as normal to them. The point where hospitalization is needed is when they are putting themselves or others in danger. Agreeing with Gabby they should also be hospitalized when they can't control themselves.
